Kavvy, you’re involved in several new projects, can you tell us a little about them?

Greg, I’m so excited where my career is taking me, many things I have been working hard on are all starting to materialize.

My ultimate career goal all along has been to merge the fitness world with the fashion world together. No one has ever been able to accomplish this before. Being a runway model for 12 years and earning national recognition as a fitness competitor, I am confident I’m the most qualified woman to be this pioneer. So confident in fact, I relocated to the Miami South Beach area to be at the doorstep of the modeling industry. I have been welcomed back to the industry with open arms. The modeling opportunities have been endless and the feedback I am receiving has been overwhelming positive. Fitness and fashion, is a match made in heaven I think. I have grand plans Greg, and I’m getting closer to achieving this goal every day.

On a more personal note, all my life, all I ever wanted to do was to help people, be it physically, emotionally or spiritually. Finally at this stage in my life and career I am in the position to do so. I firmly believe that experience is the greatest teacher of all and believe you me I have plenty of life experience I can use to help people of all walks of life. For the past few years I have concentrated my efforts in Florida. Now I am ready to branch out on a wider basis. Through a new website I am launching in September (www.kavvyworld.com) I will be able to reach people everywhere.

Can you tell us a little bit more about kavvyworld.com?

Of course. Like I said it will be launching in September. My staff and I are putting the finishing touches on the site as we speak. It will be a place anyone come to for all kinds of help. Of course it will be fitness and fashion based, but will encompass so much more than just that. I will have generic information about nutritional programs, supplements, workout programs, spiritual programs, a crisis hotline, a blog etc. I will also have merchandise available for sale such as my calendars, my posters, autographed photos, DVDs, apparel, recipes, cookbooks, etc. A good portion of the site will be free of charge and another portion will for subscribers who want VIP access to all of me…all of my sexy my photos, specific tailored nuturition, supplement and workout programs. I need to mention that any money I earn off of the site, a portion of it will be donated to various charities of my choosing.

A crisis hot-line, how will that work exactly? Who will be fielding the calls?

We are still working out the final details. But I want men and women who feel trapped in life, feel there is no way out of whatever situation they are in, that there is a safe and discreet place they can call to have people listen or offer simple solutions. When I was trapped in an horrific situations in my life be it during my childhood in Brazil or later on in unhealthy relationships, I wish I had a place to go to, a support network of sorts.

Can you tell us about your childhood in Brazil and how it has led you to this cause?

Brazil is one of the worst places in the world for an underprivileged child to grow up. Not so poverty wise, but for children of the streets, which I was one of. I was abandoned and orphaned as an infant. I never knew my birth parents and went from one orphanage to another. I don’t need to tell you every awful detail of what went on in those places, but let’s just say I emerged from there a survivor. I ended up on the streets and did whatever I had to do to survive. I saw one of my closest friends murdered in front of my own two eyes. I held another in my arms as she took her last breath. I am going into much more detail about my life and everyone will be able to read it all in my life story I am working on with a writer. That is another thing VIP subscribers will have access to…I will be posting sneak previews of sections of the book for their eyes only. I want to help the children of the streets in San Paulo. A portion of all the money I earn will be donated to them as well as a few other charities who causes are near and dear to my heart, be it sexually exploited children, the illegal sex trade, etc.

How can someone get involved to support all your charitable work?

We will have links set up on the website that they can click directly to each charity. If a website is not available for them we will furnish anyone interested with the name and address of each.

What’s the best way for fans to communicate with you?

The best way would be through email. Kavvy@kavvyworld.com or through my toll-free number 877-KAVVY4U. I have a very very busy schedule but either myself or one of my dedicated staff will be sure to get back to you as quickly as possible.

Why did you become a personal trainer?

I have always been interested in fitness/exercise and helping people. For me it was a match made in heaven. It was a natural progression for me. I believe in being a power of example. The more and more I advanced in the fitness world, the more people started to notice me and ask me nutrition and workout questions. People were always asking to join me on a workout or give them a pointer or two. One thing led to another and I decided to get certified and started helping clients achieve their fitness goals. What a better life than to do what you love and get paid for it. For me it wasn’t the money, for me it was watching someone make positive change in their life and achieve their fitness goals.

How long have you been training clients?

It’s been over seven years now and I have loved every minute of it. I get such satisfaction helping others, I really do.

Are you still competing?

As far as I am concerned right now, yes. I still train everyday as if I am competing. It is just so hard to say right now one way or the other because of my hectic modeling schedule. But I still train and diet as if the Nationals are right around the corner. I always like keep my body 2 to 3 weeks out for a completion.

Do you have a particular exercise philosophy that you subscribe to?

Stay dedicated, do something every day. I try to set small attainable goals I can do on a daily basis, instead of trying to crash and burn at the last minute. That is why I always strive to keep myself in peak physical condition year round. I also like to make it fun and challenging so that I’m looking forward to going into that gym sometimes 3 times a day. Having a workout partner helps keep you motivated to.

How do you tailor workouts to fit your client’s needs?

I sit down and take a complete history on the person, find out what makes them tick, find out what their goals are. My main focus is to listen to what their personal needs and goals are. Not what I think is best for them. What I want out of my body and personal goals is probably not what they want for themselves.

How long should people work out for?

I recommend a balanced but challenging training session on whatever fitness level you are at. You want to keep your workouts brief so you keep the intensity up. I recommend for weight gain or weight loss around 45 minutes of intense training. Once again, I am focused when I train, I do not take time to socialize or fix my hair… lol….

Do you have any suggestions on how someone can get started on an exercise regime?

Well, be realistic of your potential and your limits. If one is a beginner, then 30 minutes of some cardio will be a lot for the first couple weeks. If you have trained before and getting back in it then usually a cardio and weight training routine is beneficial. Just be CONSISTENT and do not give up! The first couple weeks are the hardest. You will be out of breath, sore and sometimes wanting to give up… On those days, just do something and usually when you just arrive to the gym, some motivation finds you:)

Should men and women workout differently?

I do not like to base a workout program based on gender. It is about what the person’s goal is and their fitness level. Like I said we need to first find out what their fitness goals are and go from there. There is the very good chance that yes they will train the same, but if the man is training for the NFL and the woman is training for a marathon, then no. It really all depends on each individual circumstance. Some might want muscle on, some might want to sculpt etc.

What type of cardio is best? And how much cardio should someone do a day?

Anything that is fun for you! Of course cardio is not the most exciting hobby to have… so, especially in the beginning, do not force yourself on a machine that you are dreading to do all day. Once one has a higher intensity or specific fitness goal, then I base cardio on those particular goals. I also encourage everyone to enjoy nature! Try doing cardio outside. You can be very creative and it is not like you are in a prison at the gym to reach your goals! Remember, raising your heart rate is the key… and finding something that you will continue doing is the other key to unlocking your goals! As far as how much per day, once again, this is completely based on the person’s fitness goals. On that note, most of my clients do cardio for weight loss purposes. If that is the case, I recommend doing 30- 45 minutes FIRST thing in the morning on an empty stomach! It really is the secret to losing fat!

Generally, how long should someone workout for?

I think working out should be a lifestyle. I think they should do some form of physical activity for the rest of their lives. It will keep them healthy inside and out.

Do you have any interests outside of the fitness industry?

I have many interests. I love to challenge myself in every aspect of my life.. I believe that I truly feel balanced and most happy when I am emotionally, spritually and physically in shape:) I am also involved in helping our environment and trying to heal our earth that we have mis-treated for many generations!

Where will you be in 20 years?

I want to be a role model. Especially for young women! I have overcome many obstacles in my life and feel that I can be beneficial to listening and guiding people. I have a huge heart and giving to others is truly what makes me so very happy! I also want to focus on our future.. which would be our children! They are the future for us and so it is important to teach and show them what a disciplined and healthy woman really is!

Splenda

Products featuring Splenda are perceived as “natural” because even the FDA’s press release about sucralose parrots the claim that “it is made from sugar” — an assertion disputed by the Sugar Association, which is suing Splenda’s manufacturer, (McNeil Nutritionals).

The FDA has no definition for “natural,” so please bear with me for a biochemistry moment: Splenda is the trade name for sucralose, a synthetic compound stumbled upon in 1976 by scientists in Britain seeking a new pesticide formulation. It is true that the Splenda molecule is comprised of sucrose (sugar) — except that three of the hydroxyl groups in the molecule have been replaced by three chlorine atoms. (To get a better picture of what this looks like, see the image of a sucralose molecule.)

While some industry experts claim the molecule is similar to table salt or sugar, other independent researchers say it has more in common with pesticides. That’s because the bonds holding the carbon and chlorine atoms together are more characteristic of a chlorocarbon than a salt — and most pesticides are chlorocarbons. The premise offered next is that just because something contains chlorine doesn’t guarantee that it’s toxic. And that is also true, but you and your family may prefer not to serve as test subjects for the latest post-market artificial sweetener experiment — however “unique.”

Once it gets to the gut, sucralose goes largely unrecognized in the body as food — that’s why it has no calories. The majority of people don’t absorb a significant amount of Splenda in their small intestine — about 15% by some accounts. The irony is that your body tries to clear unrecognizable substances by digesting them, so it’s not unlikely that the healthier your gastrointestinal system is, the more you’ll absorb the chlorinated molecules of Splenda.

So, is Splenda safe? The truth is we just don’t know yet. There are no long-term studies of the side effects of Splenda in humans. The manufacturer’s own short-term studies showed that sucralose caused shrunken thymus glands and enlarged livers and kidneys in rodents. But in this case, the FDA decided that because these studies weren’t based on human test animals, they were not conclusive. Of course, there are countless examples of foods and drugs that have proved dangerous to humans that were first found to be dangerous to laboratory rats, and then again, countless others that have not. So the reality is that we are the guinea pigs for Splenda.

And now, are our children the next trial group? Thanks to an agreement between McNeil Nutritionals (makers of Splenda) and PTO Today, which provides marketing and fund-raising aid to parents’ associations, your elementary school’s next bake sale may be sponsored by Splenda — complete with baked goods made with the product.

Splenda side effects

Observational evidence shows that there are side effects of Splenda, including skin rashes/flushing, panic-like agitation, dizziness and numbness, diarrhea, muscle aches, headaches, intestinal cramping, bladder issues, and stomach pain. These show up at one end of the spectrum — in the people who have an allergy or sensitivity to the sucralose molecule. But no one can say to what degree consuming Splenda affects the rest of us.

If this sounds familiar, it should: we went down the same path with aspartame, the main ingredient in Equal and NutraSweet. Almost all of the independent research into aspartame found dangerous side effects in rodents. The FDA chose not to take these findings into account when it approved aspartame for public use. Over the course of 15 years, those same side effects increasingly appeared in humans. Not in everyone, of course — but in those who were vulnerable to the chemical structure of aspartame.

As food additives, artificial sweeteners are not subject to the same gauntlet of FDA safety trials as pharmaceuticals. Most of the testing is funded by the food industry, which has a vested interest in the outcome. This can lead to misleading claims on both sides.

But one thing is certain: some of the chemicals that comprise artificial sweeteners are known hazards — the degree to which you experience side effects just depends on your individual biochemistry. Manufacturers are banking on the fact that our bodies won’t absorb very much of these compounds at any one time. And many of us don’t. But what happens when we are ingesting a combination of artificial sweeteners like Splenda dozens of times a week through many different “low–sugar” or “sugar–free” products?

People have been using artificial sweeteners for decades. Some react poorly, some don’t — the problem is, you never know until you’re already sick. Scientists are calling Splenda a mild mutagen, based on how much is absorbed. Right now, it’s anyone’s guess what portion of the population is being exposed to the dangers of Splenda or already suffering from Splenda side effects. Until an independent, unbiased research group conducts long-term studies on humans (six months is hardly long-term!), how can we be certain? With all the new Splenda products on our shelves, it looks as if we are now in the process of another grand public experiment — without our permission. And we may not know the health implications for decades. As with all things, time will unveil truth.

So I urge you to be concerned about the potential dangers of Splenda — as with any unnatural substance you put in your body. And I am especially concerned about its use for children, which I recommend you avoid. But unlike many holistic practitioners, I do think artificial sweeteners can serve a purpose for some women. And that has to do with the old question — which is better, sugar or an artificial sweetener? Let’s start with sugar, where the problems all begin.

A Healthier Cure for Your Chocolate Cravings……..

Yes, you are allowed to thank me for this great recipe, chocolate lovers!!!!!!

When I am not in diet season, I definetely enjoy a sweet dessert from time to time…. even better than that, CHOCOLATE!!! I have tried numerous recipes to try to find a healthier alternative but yet still not compensating taste for a healthier treat. I love this recipe! It is low in fat and sugar but yet taste very similar to homemade brownies… Try it and see:) What is even better is that all these ingrediants are found at Whole Foods!!!!

Allergen-Free Brownies:

Ingredients:

3/4 cup garbanzo and fava bean flour

1/2 cup potato starch

2 tbsp arrowroot

10 tbsp agave nectar

2 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp xanthan gum

1 tsp kosher salt

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup cold pressed coconut oil, plus more for pans

2 tbsp pure vanilla extract

1/2 cup brewed coffee or hot water

2 cups vegan, gluten free chocolate chips

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Spritz or spray muffin tins with a light mist of canola oil cooking spray or line tins with mini-muffin cups.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the first nine ingrediants; set aside. in a large bowl, mix together applesauce, coconut oil and vanilla.

Slowly add flour mixture, stirring to combine.

Stir in coffee or hot water until it formsa batter.

Fold in chocolate chips.

Place 1 tablespoon batter in each muffin cup

Bake until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean, 12- 15 minutes.

Let cool completely before removing from pan. Enjoy:)

In today’s society, we are not always able to bring our pre-made meals that we intentionally want to bring and eat. We might get stuck in traffic, or stay late at work. Honestly, it seems that something “always comes up”. Many of my clients have asked me what to eat for the “fast-paced” lifestyle or “in case of emergency” quick and extremely convenient FAST FOOD options.

As we all know, the BEST way to know exactly what you are putting into your body, is by cooking your own food from home. Every time you eat out, you are gambling with hidden, unknown calories. But, if there is NO other alternative and feel that your ONLY choice is to go thru the Drive-Thru, here are my top smart food choices at many different Fast Food Joints……..These are basic guidelines. I do have an extended list for clients that I am personally working with!

Arby’s

  • Roast Chicken Deluxe Sandwich (from the lite menu)
  • Roast Turkey Deluxe Sandwich (from the lite menu)
  • Roast Chicken Salad (only 2 tbs of salad dressing)

Burger King

  • BK Broiler Chicken Sandwich

**More tips**

  • For all salads, try to limit your salad dressing. These are where the hidden calories are. Some salads have even MORE calories than if you were to eat 2 burgers! No croutons and limited cheese are other rules to stick by!
  • For all sandwiches, take half of the bun and throw it away! Noone needs to eat that much bread!
  • Always ask for NO MAYO! You may always use mustard. It is a great way to spice up the sandwich for GREAT flavor!
  • Always watch for sauces. They taste good but that is only because they are high in fat or sugar and always calories! Salsa is always a safe option! Try it on a salad sometime!
  • For beverage choice, opt for water, of course but try a regular or decaf coffee for a change.. limit the cream and sugar and it is a great way to have a low-calorie beverage instead of a Diet Soda option!

The only limitations we have in creating our reality are the ones we choose to place on ourselves. Why do we find it so hard to believe in something until it is accomplished by someone else. The world view at one time was that we lived on a flat planet any attempt to sail towards any end would lead to falling off the world. Then one man, Magellan, circumnavigated the world and all of a sudden everyone believed it possible. At another time in history the world view was that air travel was impossible but yet a couple of bicycle mechanics believed it otherwise and today we travel to and fro on huge jets. Time and time again we as a civilization set limitations, until someone has a dream and then turns their dream into a belief and in turn their belief becomes fact, then our perspective changes and we suddenly believe that which we previously considered absurd. If YOU can dream it, YOU can be it. You only think you have limitations when in fact you live in a world of limitless possibilities. Why wait for someone else to accomplish their dreams to change your beliefs, when all you have to do is believe in the power within yourself and bring to pass that which you desire. The people in history who have achieved the realization of their dreams were not often incredibly gifted individuals accept for the fact that they were able to break free of the limitations placed on them by themselves and the society’s they lived in. These people could leave the main stream thought and focus intently on the power within themselves often with incredible opposition from those surrounding them including their closest relatives and friends. Ironically, the ones doubting their ability’s were the ones who benefited most from their achievement. Learn to unlearn all the false limitations society has you believing, recondition yourself to believe all things are possible. Don’t wait in expectation of someone else’s dream create the reality of your choosing and become the person you are supposed to be not the one society thinks is possible for you. Dream it! Believe it! Be it!

Kavvy's Famous Breakfast Burritos

Breakfast Burritos

~Makes 2 dozen~

Ingredients:

1.5lbs Lean Ground Turkey

1 dozen Large Eggs (will use only white)

1 (26oz) Can 98% Fat Free Cream of Mushroom Soup

2 packs of Whole Wheat Tortillas

1 ~50 count Snack Ziploc Bags (1.15ml)

Brown Turkey in skillet; leave a little pinkness to avoid over heating later Place in colander in sink and rinse off access fat Cook egg whites in skillet. Heat up mushroom soup in microwave (90 seconds). Place all above in a large mixing bowl and hand mix thoroughly. Add some garlic powder for additional flavor if desired .Using 1 pack of tortillas at a time; lightly spray each tortilla with water and stack on top of each other on a large plate and heat in microwave~ 90 seconds or until they are soft. Place 1 large spoonful of mixture in one tortilla and wrap like a burrito . After wrapping all the burritos, place individually into snack bagsand seal so they are tight. Place sealed burritos into the bags the tortillas came in and place in freezer .

When ready to eat just place one in the microwave still in Ziploc, (open just a little to let air escape while heating) for 2 minutes

BONUS: You can seal it back up and take it with you to eat on-the-go!!!

Per Burrito: ~ 20g Carbohydrates, 17g Protein, 7g Unsaturated Fat, 1g Sat. Fat

* Other option for added Fat intake, 1tsp of Regular Ranch Dressing for added flavor
